My Favorite Creamer

I found this post a while ago on how to build a $10 lightbox and I finally built one this week. I’ve been having some fun lately with table top photography and this is simply taking it to the next step.

Taking these pictures has also given me something to think about. Have you ever taken a look around at all the “things” you have? All of the oodles and oodles of stuff that sits on shelves, in drawers, on table tops. What does it all mean? Why do we keep some objects for years and throw others away? What do our objects mean to us?

In this case, I bought this creamer in Quartzsite, Arizona, and every time I look at it I am reminded of the day I bought it. I think I paid $12 dollars for the set (the dealer was asking for $15), and I was thrilled to have participated in the act of bartering, even if the actual value turned out to be something like 50 cents. It also reminds me of Quartzsite, the town. It’s the snowbird and flea market capital of the world. It is a very bizarre place, out in the middle of the desert. It seems to consist entirely of RVs, flea markets, and fast food joints. If you haven’t been there, I highly recommend a visit at some point in your life.
