Why I’ll Probably Quit Nursing

UPDATE: If you want to read my latest post on quitting nursing, it’s here. The bottom line? Don’t beat yourself up over your decision. And have a game plan before you quit.

There was an old post with this title that I wrote in 2008. For some reason google loves to serve it up when people type in “quit nursing.” That’s always weighed on me a little bit. As if people are looking for career advice and they could find it here on this blog.

The post has been lost or deleted. It was something about not wanting to work long hours, weekends, etc. It made sense. Now it’s 2013 and I haven’t actually worked a nursing shift since the summer of 2009. I suppose my perspective hasn’t changed too much. If I really thought being a nurse was “worth it”, surely I would be back to work by now.

The truth is that I just don’t like it. I don’t have a passion for bedside nursing. If I were in a position where I had to make money, sure I would go back to it, without a doubt. But it’s not the sort of thing I would do if I had the choice.
