- Give Birth to Benjamin.
- Quite out of the blue, get offered what you think is your dream job: General Manager of NursingLink.
- Become completely disgusted with:
(a) your boss
(b) the unsavory business of internet marketing
(c) working too hard and missing precious moments of Benjamin’s life. - Quit NursingLink.
- Realize that you want to work part time as a nurse, earn a higher hourly wage, and take off on Christmas.
- Quit working float pool in the MICU.
- Join a Nursing Agency and accept the following random assignments:
(a) flu shot nurse
(b) creator of excel spreadsheets on hand-washing and purell dispensers
(c) ICU float pool with no orientation
(d) pain treatment center nurse
(e) PACU nurse - Become less then satisfied with lack of consistency of assignments offered and seriously start to consider returning to the MICU on a permanent part-time basis.
- After years of trying to conceive naturally, and after giving birth to your first son conceived through IVF, find out, quite unexpectedly, that you are pregnant again. Forget about working in the MICU.
- Accept a 13 week assignment working full-time in Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology in a prep/recovery area. (No heavy lifting – good for someone who’s pregnant!)
- Find out that you’ve miscarried.
So a lot happened this year. As far as the miscarriage is concerned, I’m doing much better now (and yes, I will be blogging about it. When I was the in the middle of it, one of the things I wondered most was what the blogosphere had to say about miscarriages.)
It just occurred to me that if I were still a MICU nurse, I might have worked on Christmas, and perhaps spared myself from telling every single one of my relatives that I was pregnant. (It was a few days shy of my second trimester. It seemed like a good time.)
